Meet the Captain

Originally from Waycross, Georgia, Captain John Ganas has been fishing and exploring the backcountry waters around Cumberland Island Georgia for over 30 years since he was a child. St Marys, Georgia has always been considered a second home with fishing being a big part of his life passed down from his Grandfather W.A. “Dub” Ganas, to his Father Sammy Ganas, and now to Captain John. Some of the spots you will fish have produced fish for these men for over 50 years. What started as a hobby with friends and family, has now turned into a passion. Captain John loves spending time on the water, educating and teaching others about the fishery, while creating memories that will last for a lifetime.

Captain is USCG Certified, First Aid/CPR Certified, and a member of TowBoat U.S. Emergency Towing and Assistance.

I hope to share with you the mystique and beauty of Cumberland Island and the area around it. This is a special ecosystem like no other place in the world. I look forward to guiding you around the backwaters of the island for a safe, fun and memorable experience.
